| Thoughts on Menus and Blank Menus: Both are difficult to find at a reasonable price no matter what shape it's in. It has taken me almost two years to collect enough menus for this page. A big thank you goes to my customers who kept on asking for them. Their wishes made me search and search. The result is that I found some interesting items, all of them have their own brand of charming. Some including food and liquid stains! Most of the used menus come from events from the first half of the last century. I enjoyed reading each feast whether it was breakfast, lunch or diner. If there is anything you would like to know about them, please let me know. Bon Appetit, Kate P.S. All of the measurements are approximate! A treasure found in a weekend "Vide Grenier" in the Bourgogne region of France
Well, brocantes are my bread and butter, however if I can find a good Vide Grenier to go to, it is like the best dessert you could image. Vide Grenier literally means empty attic.
So, in the Spring, the French start emptying their attics to make room for what ever they need to put away from the winter. If you want a great deal, you go to a Vide Grenier, things are priced to sell, not to make money. Another way to put it: it is a village-wide "Filene’s Basement Sale," granted you need to go through a lot of junk, but when you find a prize, it is truly a prize.
My prize: Wine labels from the collection of Monsieur Ferot. He was an avid collector of wine labels in the 60’s and 70’s. I was lucky enough to acquire a selection that was large enough to create two samplers of 10 labels each with 2 additional neck labels. A sampler is $5.00.
My husband thinks it is the deal of the year and he might be right. He travels with me to brocantes and he knows how much these labels can cost.
Notice: I was lucky enough to find another collection wine labels so I can add unique labels to the sampler where I have run out of M. Ferot's labels. I have kept the price the same and I will continue to make samplers until both collections run out.--Kate
Vintage Charmings was happy to find M. Ferot and his rusty box which contained such a find!
